Who can apply
Undergraduates in any year but their first and final. You and your host group leader both have to be Genetics Society members. The page is unclear on whether the host must be a UK university or can be a research institute.

Limits on applying
- You may send in one application only.
- A lab group may support one application only in a year.
- You cannot apply if the project already has funding from another source. The grant cannot part-fund a project, extend an honours project, or pay for an early start to postgraduate study.
Pay and length
- £425 a week
- Length: up to 8 weeks
- Up to £750 towards the costs the host laboratory takes on
- A funded place at the Society's summer school workshop, with UK travel, accommodation and meals covered
- A carer's award towards childcare or other caring costs, if you need one

Notes
The page says the studentship is normally taken in the summer before your final year: after year 2 of a three-year degree, or year 3 of a four-year one. The host institution claims the grant back in arrears, and the Society expects the student to be paid before the project starts. A panel of Society committee members assesses applications, and no feedback is given on unsuccessful ones. Award holders are asked to write a short report afterwards for the Society newsletter.
